Default covers vs originals

.... some covers are better then the originals in my opinion... one that comes to mind is darkfunerals cover of slayers song -dead skin mask-.... df do it way better and the solo is more than just random notes and squeels...

cover songs are exciting. i love to hear bands' interpretation of other bands' music.
and sometimes they actually are better than the original.
but still, u've got to give the original artist props for coming up with the song in the first place. it must be so much easier to emulate some one else's songs than to actually create a new song. for that reason, i guess i'd give it to originals, if i had to pick.
but i still love cover songs...

This isn't so much metal but one that I can think of that's better is:

Marilyn Manson's cover of Soft Cell's Tainted Love

Folkearth didn't do Falkenbach's Heathenpride that bad but the original is better

I think Metallica's cover of Diamond head's Am I Evil was much better mainly because on the original version you could'nt really hear the solo that good, whoever decided on that should be shot.

I prefer a metal cover song to be a cover of a song from a different style but you don't hear too many of those. COB and Sonata Arctica have covered pop songs. I want to laugh and be entertained by a cover song. Covers of some metal band showing reverence to another band with a similar style gets a bit tired.

Faith No More's cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" is a classic that I love!

I used to have a shitload of extreme metal covers, and about 10 albums' worth of Maiden covers. Some were shit, some were okay and some were fucking brilliant. Look up Evil Ultimate Metal Covers Vol. 1 to 75 online, there's bound to be something among that lot for all of you.
