Well, isn't it okay to record someone else's song as long as they make sure to give full credit to whoever did the song originally?

I suppose, but I just disagree with that! Thats all!

Its a LOT harder to get recognition on your own, I know. And a lot of bands do it purely for exposure, which if this is their only desire. . . to be noticed as quickly as possible, not for their own writing and compositional talents, this shows them as a pretty weak muso to me!

I'm sorry, I obviously have a perspective thats hard to understand.

Fuck, no, I do get where you're coming from. I know it's not quite the same thing, but I've written lyrics for a mate's band and received no recognition for my work. That's fucking annoying. And if a band does covers and covers only, that pisses me off. It's fine to have one or two, if you want them, provided you give the original artist full credit. If I was in a band, I would probably do one or two covers; perform them at a gig, fine, but probably wouldn't want to record them. I'd rather showcase my own work.

Exactly! Performing a song live (gig) by a band that you like is a very nice feeling! And gets the crowd going! But this in my opinion is where it should stop! Willfully taking that to the next step by RECORDING it with the intention of making money is wrong!

but if you notice the track list on a cd... the cover is usually the last song.. ie:freebie,,,, and even if they were making money from the album that the song is on.. the music company would pay out royalties to the band who wrote the original.....

I hate it when bands just cover other people's work and the bands that do shouldn't get the recognition for it, it would be like an author re-writting a best seller and getting loads of money for it, it's another reason why I see metal as better than other genres because you don't get lot's of covers in metal.
