Default why slayer rules over all heavymetal

slayer is by far the epitome of heavymetal. agreed the later stuff has mixxed reactions but they have been the cornerstone of heavymetal. guitars, bass, drumming, vocals, heavymetal's demonic stature, visceral vision of their music, a dangerous image (now reverent), a brutal almst scary consistency (despite Diabolus In Musica's varying degrees of success but try playing that to a lesser metalhead, even one into megadeth's 90's stuff and you'll scare him with that and Diabolus is considered a lame Slayer record). so what do you think?

Dark Angel??????????? That's what you come up with? Ha Ha. That's fucking ridiculous. Get out of the 80's - when do you think Dark Angel came from! Morons like you never ever learn - it is not just about how fast you play but about how much influence you have had. I started this thread to discuss (not with dumbcunts like you of course) the significance of Slayer in the world of heavymetal - Dark Angel does not even qualify. You say, Dark Angel makes Slayer sound like Bon Jovi - Reign In Blood or God Hates Us All etc sound like Bon Jovi? - this is waste of my time. I told you before not to come here - but I dont think you have anything better to do.

the only thing slayer influenced was a bunch of nu metal.

Im sorry, dark angel might be alittle to fast and aggressive for you. I mean, they did it faster, harder, and darker. Maybe a clueless Def Lepard fan like yourself can't handle an album like darkness descends.

I'll agree Dark Angel isn't that influential. But I don't need to focus on them. How about Emperor. Theres an influential band that once again makes Slayer look like watered down glam rock. Imagine slayer trying to play anything from Anthems, AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH.

I've forgotten more about metal than you could ever dream of knowing. You may as well save yourself some time and avoid this topic.

First, Emperor does'nt qualify in the same influential category as Slayer. Second, Black Metal is overhyped and punctuated by mindlessness - controversies dont equate to great, legendary music - yes Emperor are good - and I have Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk but despite the progressiveness on the record, it is still more commercial than their first outing. And they did nothing else significant after that (2 more records) and had internal disasgreements over the musical direction. Slayer stayed true to their brutal roots and only slowed down on 3 albums out of 9 over a 25 year period. Why bother man, what you are coming up just does'nt add up. And dont assume my knowledge of metal - assumption is the mother of all fuckups. I am looking for a serious discussion on the issue of the ULTIMATE metal band - obviously not for half assed panzies like you. Just dont bother. This is my last message to you.

I decided to edit my original post. Your floundering in obvious bias for slayer, but i'll bite because im bored

it is not just about how fast you play

haha. Nice one. Way to knock down your own argument.

Your honestly going to tell me that anything Slayer did after Season in the Abyss is Significant? If you are lets stop right there. Because it shows that you are blinded by obvious bias based on your love for this band. And even Seasons is rather lackluster. Slayer have done nothing but float along on the name they built for themselves in the 80s.

As for ultimate metal band? There is no ultimate metal band. Metal is far to vast a genre to have 1 band that epitomizes the entire genre. You could make a case for Slayer being the ultimate thrash band(which I disagree with 100%), but anything beyond that is ridiculous.

The closest band to being the "ultimate" metal band is probably Maiden. (can't wait to have you gawk and call them pussies. That would really be icing on the cake). THe evidence is overwhelming. Their run of near-perfect albums in the 80s will never be matched. Their weakest being the s/t from that string of excellence says alot too. Obviously, the 90s was a dark time, but unlike most bands, slayer included, Maiden manage to comeback to the forefront of heavy metal while at the same time completely reinventing themselves. BNW and DOD are easily on par with their 80s work, and thats 10-20 years down the road.

Do I even need to mention how influential Iron Maiden are? Its basically common knowledge.

You can't argue the logic i've put on the table. But the next time Slayer plays Madison Square Garden, we can think about, possibly actually debating this subject. Until then its a moot point.

Admirable point of view. Maiden does rule but disagree with the 2 albums (from this decade actually) in terms of significance. despite the critical acclaim. At least now, you are discussing, and I saw your previous post (one you edited).

I think that slayer is the epitome of metal. I just love everything about them, as a writer I am deeply impressed by the lyrics as well. Not one bad lyric from the start!

...and I would never dream of calling Iron Maiden pussies, who would be so ignorant as to insult legends? I am just glad Bruce is back, he just one hell of a singer!
