Actually they are NWOBHM. In other words - Heavy Metal. This is in the correct section. Its only younger fans that think they are black metal. When they appeared they were like a cheap budget Motorhead with less playing skill, bad production and a phoney image of trying hard to look scary & intimidating.

I bought a couple of albums in the 80's. I quite liked them as they were bordering on thrash (even though they came out before thrash was even invented). Many thrash bands quoted them as influence alongside other NWOBHM bands like Motorhead. I could never take them serious though due to their crazy dress sense. I found it funny. Back then not many people I knew did. Nowadays they are treated like gods because of black metal bands constantly praising them.
Its strange how the tables can turn.

This is my opinion exactly.

I concur although they released an album called black metal but it does not sound anything like what most black metal sounds like more thrashy.

Venom is an awesome band which influenced many. The albums "Welcome to Hell" and "Black Metal" are just a must for any metalhead's album collection. But I believe they don't have much to contribute today and should silently split up before they start sounding like ghosts of their glorious past. The same can be said about Maiden and Metallica (even though their new album is listenable). Flame me all you want, but that's the sad truth.

I'm not talking about talent. I'm talking about doing the fucking same at each album and having fucking MONEY as their only goal.

I wouldn't call having nearly similar riffs and the same kind of vocals in every album as trying different things (I believe nothing will every surpass their '80s period), but everyone's entitled to his own opinion

Every song is unique. I can't think of any song which is just a newer copy of a previous one. I agree their song writing isn't as fresh and raw as their 80's stuff. It has become much duller. When Maiden were producing albums every year in the 80's nobody complained as the song writing was raw and fresh. They didn't need to change sound or direction.

I personally think its a good thing when a band is able to stick to their sound and still produce a new unique album without having to turn by bringing something different in.
