Eugh, I have a strong and passionate feel of utter dislike towards all of those bands, except for Sentenced who are quite good as far as I have heard. I saw them live the day before yesterday.

How ironic, I'm a (gothic) metal listener from Finland and have never liked any of the bands mentioned. Though sometimes I get the feeling I actually should be listening to Sentenced because they're so widely appreciated and one of the few big metal bands around here. But it just never hits me. I love The 69 Eyes and Sentenced, some good stuff to relax to.

Sentanced are supposed to be good. Haven't heard them yet. I'm not really into much gothic metal, but I like some goth as a separate genre!

Gothic metal is one of my favorite genres, but only from countries other than Finland. Metal Storm has split the genre in two, or rather created a subgenre called Suomi metal. I think they separated it perfectly because ~95% of this Suomi metal garbage is something I just can't stand, it's a genre full of whining and the songwriting is boring. You can easily notice that most of the vocalists try to sound way deeper than their voice really is just to sound more badass - you know what I mean by this if you have ever heard the 69 Eyes.

Gothic metal is best when combined with symphonic, doom or black metal. Tristania is one of my favorite bands, I also like Theatre of Tragedy, Sirenia, Tiamat, Draconian, Dis Pater and the Sins of Thy Beloved.

Can't say I'm too bothered about Tristania and I've never heard the other bands. I used to know someone who was friends with members of Tristania, but I lost contact ages ago.
