Doom metal has changed a lot during its time so it depends on what kind of doom you're looking for. I don't know much about the traditional doom scene, but at least the modern subgenres are good - if you're into death/doom then you better check out My Dying Bride, Katatonia, early Anathema, Forest Stream, Draconian, Swallow the Sun, Mourning Beloveth etc.

I'd add the english act THE PROPHECY and the FRench DISTRESS which are the two best newcomers of the doom/death style in my opinion. I mean I find their respective last albums better than what MY DYING BRIDE has become even if I still like this band very much.

Thanks for the tip then, that sounds like something I should also try. I haven't investigated this scene all that much lately...

Anyway death/doom seems to be the perfect choice for starters, before proceeding to the extreme doom genres such as funeral and drone. (unless you find old school doom more interesting)

If death/doom is your thing, you should definitely check out Irish band Graveyard Dirt.

I Could Hook You Up With Some Place Of Skulls If You Want

Heavily Influenced By Pentagram

Theyre Like The Most Influential Doom Metal Band Ever

They Where Around At The same Peiod Of Time As the Eagles And Stuff Man!

They Fell Apart In 2002

But Since Then The Lead Guitarist From Pentagram Created A Band Called Place Of Skulls

Theyre Insane Add Me On Msn And Ill Hook You Up
