Last thing and that's an important one. The new releases are generally for the Official reviewers (if you need a brief explanation: we have deals with Record Companies and we cannot post everything unfortunately).

god forbid that an independent website should fall out with a record company over a bad review. as far as i can see this basically says "don't review new albums because we have to make sure the record companies don't get upset by your opinion. after all, we don't want to lose our precious sponsership money".

christ. i haven't been on MS in ages and when i check, some rubbish like this has been posted. read metal-archives reviews for serious opinions. metal storm are too worried about falling out with a record company and losing sponsership money/ free promo stuff etc. i don't have any faith in their reviews now and nobody should when they come up with a rule like that

MS is bad these days, alot of daft folks. And the site itself leaves alot to be desired. I mean, I write for an e-zine. And we've been contacted by the bands and shit for our good work, and we have had a few bad ones (mine being the worst, I gave the new Novembers Doom a 4/10) And we've not caught any flak for that. If you bias your reviews like that, than I dont think they deserve the money.

Mybe metal storm will become the online equivalent of kerrang magazine and whenever a cool mainstream band releases a record, it will be met with praise and high ratings now matter how bad it is.

not that im suggesting that kerrang rates famous and cool bands well because of advertising concerns

I'm going to defend Metal Storm on this one, they do provide many reviews on new albums. (the list of new reviews, on the homepage seems to get updated quite quickly). I've benefited from many of their reviews when thinking about buying albums. The reviews themselves are always good.

Well when I read this, you surely can't trust their reviews. I have read many of their reviews (and they have alot, and they update very often), but I never bought an album after reading their review (mainly because I can't find the album).
I read other reviews at tartareandesire, metal archives and metalreviews. Metalstorm has surely changed over the years, before I hardly saw any banners but now it's loaded.

If you can't find the album, then that's not MS's fault :wink: About the banners, what ones do you see? Sometimes there are a few, but only for upcoming gigs or whatever. They aren't there all the time either. If it wasn't for the banner about on MS about MF, I never would've found it

you may have missed my point. im not saying MS reviews are bad. im not saying trhat they might be useful to people looking for new music. my point is that i can't trust their opinions on these albums if they carefully select people to review new albums
