Is there a mainstream band you can stand?

Is there any mainstream or popular band you can stand or like? My best friend asked me this question today. His favorite band is Sum 41. Thats all he listen's to. Thats THE ONLY mainstream band I can really stand. I think it's just because I here them constantly from my friend. Hell, I know most of the words from all their songs (which is sad, I know.) But, I can't help it. I hear them to much. Is thier any mainstream band that dosen't bother you?

Megadeth (Yes they are mainsteam) and believe it or not Green Day Billie Joe can play but he often chooses not to. Green Days previous releases suck but American Idiot isn't half bad in my opinon. Oh yeah and Tool is great too I can't wait for the new CD.

Here are bands that are not mainstream but are getting pretty close to it:

Shadows Fall
Killswitch Engage
Arch Enemy
Cradle of Filth (They just signed a deal with SONY fucking records)
Nevermore (They've made it about half way there it'a only a matter of time before they hit it big)
Opeth (Come the fuck on they got sighned to Road Runner one of the most manipulative lables on the planet)

Well, not really, but on occasions I will listen to a bit of Cradle Of Filth and Killswitch Engage. Not that often though. I got into Killswitch Engages older stuff which is a little less metalcorish, so better. Cradle Of Filth's older Black/Symphonic Metal stuff wasn't so bad, and I do listen to that sometimes. I only really listen to that stuff on occasion and nothing else really. Not Sum 41 anyway ;-)

I think Pantera were slightly mainstream and they got me into extreme music. I don't listen to them so much anymore but sometimes when I'm in the mood. It's not that I can't stand most of this music but most of it bores me more than anything. I like metal, but I like avant-garde/weird/ambient/old-punk music too. I hate the vocals on bands like Blink 182 or whatever, that whiny American accent. "Shudder"

You like American Idiot? Hmm... thats suprising. I hear most people say their older stuff is better. I don't listen to any Green Day, new or old. I think they suck either way. But, I just hear people say their older stuff is better. I wouldn't know...

Green Day's new stuff is apalling. I used to get subjected to it on the radio that used to play on the school bus I used to catch, now I still can't escape it because they play it at my work. Yes, their old stuff was slightly more bareable. I'm talking about their really old stuff that most Green Day 'fans' probably don't even know about.

A perfect point you just made right there. When Green Day fans say "I'm the greatest fan of Green Day!" And then you ask them "whats your favorite album?", they'll say "American Idiot." Why? The album sucks. I don't know what thier older albums sound like, but I'll bet there a hell of alot better than their newer crap.

Definately. There will be people walking around saying that they really like Green Day and they are a huge fan, and like you say, they'll say that American Idiot is their favourite album. They are just people who are jumping on the Green Day bandwagon. They heard two songs, which are singles, off the new album, on the radio and voila, they're instant fans. If you're lucky maybe one of these 'huge fans' may have heard of one of their now-older-but-still-new albums. And basically none even know that they have some really old stuff. Before they really got into the charts.
