Hi everyone
From what I can gather, a lot of people who post here are relatively young and a fair few of you are still living at home with your parents.
Which leads me to ask the question...
...what do your parents think of the music you listen to?
I've asked several people this in the past and have had varied answers. Some were introduced to rock/metal by their parents, who have no objectio to their children listening to the same, and others have parents who disapprove, maybe even forbid it in their house, or in extreme cases, smash up their kids' music collections
Now, my dad is into 60s pop, my mother easy listening. Unfortunately, I was brought up in a fairly strict religious househhold and was completely unaware of rock and metal until I was 14, as sad as that sounds. I started off by getting into grunge, then doom/stoner stuff, before discovering extreme metal. My mother did not like this at all and snapped several of my CDs in half, accusing me of going 'off the rails' because I was listening to 'evil' music.
When I was 18, she made an attempt at trying to understand me and my tastes, and insisted I play something for her. Cathedral's 'Endtyme' was the heaviest thing I owned at that time, so I put on 'Melancholy Emperor' and waited. My mother was silent for most of it, but her face was gradually turning purple with rage. In the end, she turned it off and said in a shaking voice, 'I hope the neighbours couldn't hear that'...needless to say, she was not impressed.
So, as I asked, what do your parents think of your taste in music? Do you find them to be understanding, or have you had problems because of what you listen to?
