Re: Parental reactions to your music I was introduced to metal at 9 years old by myself (from curiosity basically). I still remember downloading "So Fucking What" by Metallica, getting hooked and hearing the goddamn song all day long. In the same year (2000) I bought Iron Maiden's "Brave New World".
My mother was always into '50s-'60s rock n' roll; Elvis Presley mostly. She liked the music but didn't like the skulls, the lyrics and the general blackness of the atmosphere. Of course she didn't act like some stupid christians (both of my parents are atheists anyway!) and respected my right to hear whatever I want. When I started hearing death/black/gothic metal some years after, she just hated brutal vocals but still liked the music. Now she enjoys hearing me play At the Gates' songs on guitar :P
The heaviest thing my father heard before I introduced him to metal was The Beatles. He has an open mind and an open ear for music with quality. Being a listener to classical music, he liked Therion, Apocalyptica and Haggard from the first time he heard them from me. He also likes Firewind and Kamelot, but hates Cannibal Corpse, haha.
