Default Bands today vs. bands back then

Bands today... YouTube - Rock Bottom - Premieres Oct 7th at 11pm/10c on FUSE

and then bands back then... YouTube - Keith Richards Guitar Hit

The same old stuff? Better, different or on a path to super lameness?

Well not so much those examples.

Personally I think, apart from extreme Metal which is what I have an undying appreciattion and love for (namely Black Metal and some Death Metal) I think newer music has been lacking for years. I cannot stand the current trend of girl/boy bands and hip hop/R and B crap that is encouraged by todays mainstream media, and commercialised for this younger generation to see and idolise. . .

Music for example of the 70's and 80's through to early 90's 'sometimes' was full of musicians who wrote ans performed music purely for the love of it.

Bands like Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Motorhead, AC/DC all had a massive impact on what I listen to now. Even people like David Bowie in my opinion where pioneers to what is around then, because they created their own sounds. . .

Old school music(mainstream) on a whole was WORLDS above the tripe that exists today.

I agree that music of the good ol' times was really charismatic and that nowadays, music is just a weak trial of having these old days back (like Mikka and his "retro-stuff") and of being a "cool dude", but some music of these days is superb and sometimes it is a lot better than old school like Keep of Kalessin: their records are a lot better than most old school BM... (IMO anyway)

i dont think its really a case of 'vs'.

the music of the past influences the music of the present.
its the same thing, it's just been transformed.
if it was good back then, then anything following from that line
will be good now too. (in most cases)

Hard to tell using those two videos as examples.. Richards was a huge celebrity there... and in that other trailer those bands are more or less unknown... yet just as rowdy.

I think there are just a lot more bands out now then there used to be. There are a lot more successful bands out that are just flat out horrible. I think the one thing that hasn't changed is how these "rock stars" party... still the same old game.

i think because back in those days you had to actually have talent to play music
entertain people ect.

these days any tart or pretty boy can release a piece of shit and get world famous
in under a month.

the thing that separates the talented's from the tarts is the fact that the
tarts are only around for for as long as their one single stays popular, then
thats it.... next flavor over the month coming soon.

I was checking out the site and a guy in one of the bands has a meth addiction. He's not in the episode that's on tonight though. They saved him for last. It's a good thing the show airs so late too. This isn't the kinda stuff you want kids to see.

Fuse.tv - Fuse Rock Bottom

Who do think are the biggest junkies in the industry now? I vote for Skeevy Winehouse. She looks terrible
