Just got a new (korean-made) DEAN Cadillac select (set-in neck, mahogany neck and body, with carved maple top-like any gibson les paul). It sounds better than the last few new gibsons I've played at the local 'shop. It also looks a hell-of-a-lot-better, and doesn't feel like you're playing a boat-anchor. git

Dean's heavier n brighter thn gibson I guest. But gibson's hell great too. In me opinion, suggest ya to try out Jackson nor BC Rich. I prefer BC Rich.

I personally think that it depends on what genre you play, im guessing more metal so id go look at the Dean as they are more based on the metal sceane, espically with all the dime guitars they are whoreing out nowdays.
Gibson are more suited to rock and hard rock, though some gibbos are good for metal though you will probably have to pay through the arse, depending on what you are looking at spending, maybe Epiphone could be a better option to look at then Gibson.

Anyway, try out a few of each brand and see what you feel best with, its really a matter of personal preference, just go for what feels best for both playabilty and sound.

Obviously Gibson. Deans blow in my opinion. They fall into the category of companies more focused on looks rather than quality. Take a look at their razorbacks. Pretty much crap for what your paying for, and all your paying for is the fact that Dime supposedly designed it. Your going to get crap from companies like Dean and Jackson unless your ready to spend 2 grand and up. Gibsons are handmade and maintain consistency with the quality of their products. Sure Gibsons are pricey, but your paying for the fact that an experienced craftsman took the time to make sure everything is the way it's supposed to be. Metal looking or not, Gibsons shit all over deans.

I'd go with the gibson, however deans are good. But gibsons are legendary, they all play great, pop some emg's and you'll be thrashing all day. Tough decision...but in the long run my money goes with gibson.

oh and BC RICH's ALL SUCK!

It all depends what you play dude. They both produce beautiful sounds. The Deans rail-pickups are beautiful in the signatures, but than again Gibson Les Pauls Humbuckers are also beautiful. Although i'm not a guitarist I would have to give it to a Dean.
