Has anyone heard of Diabolical Masquerade?I think ppl would have, coz it's quite mainstream IMO.But the stuff is brilliant avant-garde BM.Dan Swano is on drums and this brilliant chap called Blackheim does everything else.I got this album called Nightwork, and it fucking slays.Can't stop listening to anything else for a while.Its so fucking avant-garde.Very vague and jazzy BM! 8O

For the guy who thought Gwar were war metal because yes they do well and truly suck balls, let me explain:

War metal is a cross between old school black metal, the 80's Brazilian death metal scene (bands such as Sarcofago, Sextrash, Sepultura's Bestial Dvastation EP/Morbid Visions album etc), grindcore and perhaps an element of Morbid Angel in the Altars of Madness era with the chaos of teutonic thrash such as early Sodom, early Kreator, early Destruction. And of course Blasphemy and Necrovore. Thats war metal buddy. I'll put it this way: Ever imagined what armageddon might sound like? This is it. The best war metal is perhaps Conqueror, Blasphemy, Revenge, Axis of Advance, Bestial Warlust, Abominator, Thornspawn, Black Witchery etc (generally a lot of bands from Australia, USA and Canada, though there are plenty more around the world (Impiety from Singapore, Infernal War from Poland, Blood Vengeance from Germany etc).

i think its too hard to explain war metal with words. just check out some of the mentioned bands. particularly blasphemy and black witchery but i would reccomend avoiding conqueror.

I like Conqueror!

I think they're a great band. But I suppose it's your opinion. Revenge and what I've heard of Cremation, I have enjoyed. Basically the bands that I mentioned are generally the bands/music that has influenced war metal in the past. Though I agree that war metal has to be heard to be understood.

i know it sounds like an ignorant thing to say but all of conquerors songs sound pretty much the same to me and i get bored of listening to them in about 10 minutes. the vocals are pretty good but i don't think they really had enough ideas to make a whole album.

btw, i just got all my primae noctis demos in the post today. the video they made for the song 'an experiment in necrophiliac obssession' is the best music video ive ever seen (or worst depending on your point of view). suits the music well though
