but the first time I'd ever even heard of this weird, cartoony (at times) genre known as Black Metal it was 2006, when I watched the video for Dimmu Borgir's Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. I was searching through YouTube for Amon Amarth videos (had just stopped listening to "Mainstream" music) and found it.

I nearly spit out my cola at the sight of how hilariously overdramatic and cartoony the video was, but I was hooked as fuck to the music!

It was probably either Satyricon or Burzum for me.
I still love both bands very much.

I know i'm going to get flamed for saying this, but the first band that i ever listened to that was anywhere close to black metal was Cradle of Filth. Now, i know they are not black metal (even though i still like everything they did up until Bitter Suites) but they introduced me to the symphonic part of metal, and from there it went to Arcturus, Catamenia, so on and so fourth. But, as it stands, symphonic and melodic black metal is my favorite genre of music.

Some of the first was Darkthrone, Dark funeral, a 2 disc compilation which i think was called Blackened. It had Emperor on it and a few others who i cannot remember. Does Bathory- Blood, fire, death count? If not then Cradle of filth- The principles of evil made flesh. Now it's alot of Emperor.

I was into death metal at the time. Then I saw Gorgoroths Carving a Giant. Then I went onto Burzum, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Nargaroth etc. Then it got even more extreme when i got hooked on DSBM. Gotta say it has a massive impact on me, even at 14. Fuck I get nightmares all the time and now hate the dark lol..

But once you start listening and like it so mch. your stuck.
