for me it was alot of Dimmu Borgir! and the kicker is I still love there stuff both old and new...but in terms of BM there is far far better....but Dimmu has a place in my heart ^^
I think its understandable after all without them Ied never have come to know the greatness of true BM
so my hats off to Dimmu ^^

seriously, the first bm band i listened to was CoF, back when i was a foolish 15 year old. the guy who introduced me to metal was a HUGE cof head.

Dragonlord. I suppose I was a bit unlucky in that respect, because while Dragonlord is a really good band, they don't have the poor production values that most black metal has, and that made it a bit more difficult to get into stuff like Mayhem and Darkthrone.

It started for me with Cradle Of Filth, closely followed by Dimmu Borgir; however, both bands were still considered to be black metal at that time. I went off it for a bit after that, but then I discovered Darkthrone, Nattefrost, Carpathian Forest, Isengard, Immortal, Mayhem and Marduk. That's about as far as I've got so far
