A combination of Dimmu Borgir/Emperor/Immortal/Burzum. I was in 8th grade (around '99) and this guy in my history class had albums by these bands. I had never heard of them at the time and asked him if I could borrow them and check them out. Ever since I've been hooked on Black Metal.
Reminds me of early DIMMU BORGIR or IMPALED NAZARENE...
It's also the case with the oldest SODOM I think, Obsessed by cruelty sounds closer to black metal than pure thrash imo.

I agree with the fact that you can hear alot of thrash influences in alot of black metal. Lets not forget that both death metal and black metal evolved from thrash.
When I first got into it I listened to Darkthrone and Emperor and various artists on compilations, then I listened to stuff like Judas Iscariot and that got me into underground black metal and now I listen to stuff that's either obscure or not many people have heard of them/own releases by them.
My friend had shown me a Xasthur song but i remember getting Immortals At the Heart of Winter and puttin it in...The first track drew me closer to the darkness i live with every day and i have never looked back.
