Default Ukranian Black Metal Scene

So, what do you think of the Ukranian scene? Personally I like it, since it tends to be both atmospheric and raw. Bands such as Astrofaes, Drudkh, Hate Forest, Kroda and Nokturnal Mortum can be mentioned.

Yeah, Roman (vocals, guitars, bass) is in Hate Forest, Yuri (drums) is in Astrofaes whilst Thurios (vocals, keyboard) is in both.

Well I really like Hate Forest. I was talking to a friend of mine from Chile, and he said I should check them out, saying that he's never heard a bad opinion of them. After I heard them, he still hadn't. Their music seems to be not like something you hear everyday too.

I've heard some people say that they have NS influences. I haven't found this though, what's everyone's thoughts?

Well they have used a black sun as a stage backdrop, but otherwise I don't know. Their links to NS seem to come from speculation. Nokturnal Mortum are an excellent band as are Drudkh. Heard Kroda for the first time yesterday and was impressed! Very good. I believe it was a song from their split with Velimor (who aren't bad either but I think they're Russian, so not entirely relevant to this section.

Hate Forest wasn't NSBM, but they have been associated with it because some of their lyrical themes was about the Aryan mythology. The members are a part of the NSBM movement, but that's because of some of their sideprojects and not Hate Forest.

Ahh ok then. I thought it must've been something like that. Thanks Alfader, Surma.

Yeah I don't mind Nokturnal Mortum or Drudkh either. NM are good as they have a little Folk influence, and a little symphonic-ness, but the raw feeling of Black Metal seems to still be there imo.

Are there any non-Pagan bands in Ukriane? If so they don't seem to have a very high profile from what I can gather. Mind the majority of Slavic black metal seems to be Pagan though there are a couple of Satanic ones I know of in Poland.
