| |  Satanic Black Metal VS. Viking/Folk Black Metal
Both styles have their own likeable and unlikeable qualities and each style has its own standout bands. Which style do you prefer?

Both are good. I like Pagan bands like Temnozor, Nokturnal Mortum, Drudkh, latter Burzum, Finntroll, Turisas, Morrigan etc just as much as Lust, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Ouroboros, Mercyful Fate etc. I don't know which side I relate to more though. |

Well, yeah, I like both too. Black Metal is always a great listen, but so is Folk/Black. Folk/Black probably isn't the best music when you're in a Folk mood as it isn't Folky enough, but it's good to listen to when you want some Folk Metal that's a little more extreme. Ensiferum, Adorned Brood, Elfsword, XIV Dark Centuries, In Extremo, Vanaheim, Nazgul, Primordial and Finntroll are among my favourite Folk/Black bands.

Maybe he means just general Raw Black Metal vs Folk/Black. That's what I interpreted it to be anyway.

I don't see it as a verses. Both are as good as eachother if done well and have different atmospheres, thus creating a different image in my head when I listen to it. As with anything, if its done well then I'll like it. If its crap then I won't listen to it. |

both are good but i like viking metal better it has more meaning the lyrics from borknagar enslaved and amon amarth kick the crap outta lyrics by mayhem and gorgoroth

I'd say Nokturnal Mortum and Temnozor are very different from say, Ensiferum and Tyr. Viking metal has its roots in black metal, but really Pagan Black metal and Viking metal are two different things, even though they share similarities. |

Well, yeah. The themes are the same, but I would say Viking Metal are more alike to Folk Metal and Pagan Black Metal to Black Metal, of course, but they usually share some Folk elements. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes |  Linear Mode |
