The only melodic death bands I like are At the Gates, Dismember and Amon Amarth, but most of the time its too watered down for me. It also reminds me of all those awful metalcore bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium whom I hate deeply. I can listen to melodic death and yes I like melodies in Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, but to me death metal melody shouldn't compromise brutality, like say the aforementioned bands. The atmosphere of Amon Amarth enhances the atmosphere, otherwise they'd be a death metal band with lyrics about Vikings, but they add more melodic elements which enhances the atmosphere. But at the end of the day melodeath to me as a general rule can be summed up like this: I don't hate it completely, its just BORING! |
