Default The best melodic death metal bands?

hey guys I've just been getting into metal recently and I think I've found my favorite genre...melodic death metal. I am a huge fan of Death and I like In Flames earlier work...what are some other good bands you guys can recommend along these lines?

Check out the other threads of this forum to get some ideas. If you like early IN FLAMES you should like DARK TRANQUILLITY and EBONY TEARS. But the best melodic death metal bands ever are EDGE OF SANITY, DEAD SILENT SLUMBER and KALISIA

Especially Dark Tranquillity. I think In Flames and them actually swapped vocalists some point.

I would probably recommend "The Absence" as well. It's an American melodic death band.

Check them out on their myspace: www.myspace.com/theabsence

There's two songs from their first album, which I own, and there's two new songs from their forthcoming album which is released August 7th, and my name should be in the booklet ;-)

I must say though, that so far I prefer the first album compared to the two new songs, but they will probably grow on me with time.

I would also recommend checking out Nightrage, and their album from 2002 called "Sweet Vengeance", it's their best, and it features Per Møller Jensen on drums, Tomas Lindberg on vocals, Gus G on lead guitar, a dude from Evergrey with some clean vocals, and so on.. I've enjoyed listening to it quite a bit. Unfortunaly, their newest album sounds like some kind of metalcore crap, so go with the first album, it's the one I mentioned, it's excellent.

And also, don't forget the American band "Enforsaken", I quite like their album "Sinner's Intuition", unfortunaly, they broke up after making it, but it's from 2006 so it's not an old album. They have some older albums as well but I haven't really heard them except a song or two on their myspace. The first two songs "Blacklist Assassin" and "Witness To The Fall" is from the album I mentioned, the other two are older songs.

We have completely forgotten to mention Amon Amarth as well, they are also a good melodic death metal band, and probably one of the most known ones together with In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, etc.

I would check out their newest effort "With Oden On Our Side", it's also their best in my opinion.

thank you for all the recommendations...but I was also wondering if there are any bands more like Death...would this even be considered anything along the lines of melodic death metal?

No, DEATH are not considered "melodic" Death Metal. I think you might be interested in a few Thrash stuffs as well. Do not focus on Death Metal only. Try SOTHIS for instance.

Yes I love thrash metal...Slayer is what got me into metal and I love Sothis...but back to the previous topic what would Death be categorized as than? Just technical death metal?
