i'd have to say the best Australian melodic death metal band would have to be UNIVERSUM bar none.

hey man, dont forget AT THE GATES, theyre in line with IN FLAMES and DT, but a bit more brutal, very melodic however. I highly recommend them, seeing as i was introduced to metal through IN FLAMES also and i still think they're the best! remember, AT THE GATES!

If you like Death, which is pretty unique, and are just starting with this music you may also want to try some of the other early and outstanding death metal bands: Obituary, Bolt Thrower.
