I've seen alot of people refer to their later music as progressive death metal, but I don't know what defines "progressive" styles.

i read all the replays about this topic , none of them had a namd that is worth it something , i personaly think that this topic hasnt got that many fans in here
i strongly recmand these bands:
At the fates
hypocrisy
kalmah
ablaze my sorrow
blinded by faith
the black dahlia murder
absence(germany)
cryptic wintermoon(melodic black metal from germany)
ILLNATH(melodic black metal from denmark)
AUTUMN LEAVES
if u know them all let me know i'll add the next list

This thread was entitled "best melodic death metal bands"--for a guy who listens to DEATH and IN FLAMES--and was in no way meant to list as many bands into melodic death metal as you can... Besides, none of the bands you mention are over average quality.

I think the latest Hypocrisy are, but that's just my opinion. I'm not really into melodeath.

Well, you're right they may be good (just like a few others) but they're not outstanding enough to be introduced in this thread the way they were

If you are just starting to get into melodic death metal Deffinetly check out:

1.Amon Amarth (Solid consistent band, recomend the cd's "Versus The World" and "With Oden On Our Side")

2. Arsis (Over rated but still good american melo death. Both of thier cd's are good)

3.At The Gates (Of course check out "Slaughter Of The Soul")

4.Dark Tranquillity (Enough said)

5.Insomnium

6.Nightrage (First cd only)

7.Wintersun

8.Vornagar

9.Council Of The Fallen

10.Daylight Dies

That's a good mix of melo death bands some carry viking metal, doom, extreme, and symphonic infleunces.

Arch Enemy is gay...Callenish Circle was one of my favorite bands before they called it quits which I respect them greatly for. They didn't want to go past their expiration date UNLIKE METALLICA so they called it quits on February 2nd of last year (I beleive). So they'll forever be remembered, just like Judas Iscariot.
