Well Slayer hands down. There isnt a "new" SLayer. They stayed true to themselves all along whilst Metallica completly fucking sold out to metal and thier fans for over ten years. You can put Metallica on stage and play thier best songs in front of a huge metal crowd, then put Slayer up there immediatly following, and I can garantee they will blow Metallica clear off the stage any fucking day of the week.

Old Metallica will always hold a place in my heart, as Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning were some of the first metal albums I've ever heard. And to be honest, I'm not really a Slayer fan. I know it's basically metal suicide to say that, but... I suppose I just find them a bit boring. Most of their songs sound the same, if not very similar, and Tom Araya's voice has kind of a nails-on-the-chalkboard effect on me. Not only that, but Kerry King and Dave Lombardo are two of the most overrated names in metal, despite the fact that both are nothing more than average. That's not to say they aren't good, because they are, but there are many guitarists and drummers who are many times better, yet have a fraction of the recognition. Much of Slayer's popularity is based on the fact that they were more or less "pioneers" of their style, I suppose, and you almost always idealize your first exposure to something you love; Look at Jimi Hendrix. While Metallica is roughly the same age, Slayer does have a more brutal sound than Metallica, and a lot of people equate brutality with good music, which is highly misguided. You can be brutal as shit and still suck.

But I digress. I still say old Metallica is better than Slayer. Old Metallica, of course, because most people are in agreement that new Metallica (everything after ...And Justice For All) sucks the shit out of a rhino's ass. They sold out, yes, but that doesn't change the fact that they used to rule.

Well Obviously your oppinion is so fucking biased its almost unvalidated. Ok so you don't like SLayer, I can bet my house that you prolly listen to Nickelback and rock out to Disturbed alot too. Dave Lombardo will outdrum Lars "Ugh I suck" Ulrich with his feet alone, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman out harmonize and outshred DIrk Dammit any day, anywhere, anytime, and Tom Arayas vocals are SOOOOOOO much more METAL than James Shitfield's. I like MEtallica too, I cut my teeth on thier old shit, and I even like they're latest album too, but they're music is simple, heavy chorded, and made for the masses. COMMERCIAL!!!!!Slayer is without a doubt, far and beyond the more technical band, the more metal band, and tuned to the"metalheads" ear than Metallica ever was and ever will be. Slayer isnt for pussies.
