Well that answers the question of whether or not he has actually been released...I was told by a mate a couple of months ago that he had been released several months earlier. And everyone else I've asked about it doesn't seem to have a clue one way or the other.

He was never 'released'

He was out on a 'day release' and fled across the norwegian border with a car full of guns/ammunition and explosives!

He was caught red handed, so don't expect to see him out anytime soon.

They will try and keep him behind bars till he rots. Anything you hear otherwise is rumour or rubbish.

Yeah, I know about the day release thing, and how he fucked things up for himself good and proper, didn't he get an extra 10 years for that?

From what I could work out, it would have been another 6 years or so before he was released, but fuck knows now I guess. Ha, on learning that I wanted to base my novel on the Norwegian black metal scene, a mate of mine suggested that I could take a trip to Norway and try and secure an interview with Varg in jail. He said 'as long as you keep your trap shut about the murder, you'll be fine'. It took two of us to explain why this was not one of his better ideas

i don't think he'll ever leave.
i don't think he wants to leave. his parole has come up twice in the past and both times he's done things to jeopardise it.
he knows that if he gets out he'll be dead within a week, there are too many followers of euronymous/mayhem to let him live.
