Default Recommend more Dimmu Borgir, or other

Please advise. Not a hardcore metal fan. Looking for some new metal to listen to. I have Dimmu Borgir's "Puritanical" album and looking for more in that vein, specifically the melodic, symphonic, and clean vocal aspects of it (Sympozium is a favorite from that album.)

I like Metallica up to and including the black album, and even a little after that (if you want to flame, just move along now young man.) I like Slayer, especially South of Heaven. I like Rage Against the Machine. Don't care much for Anthrax or Megadeth. Exodus Bonded in Blood was mediocre. I like a hard, heavy, metal sound, and creepy atmosphere or anger, just with actual singing or at least intelligible screaming. Childish lyrics make me cringe. I like well crafted and interesting songs, like Metallica One, and I'm a sucker for melodic tunes, like Metallica rendition of Whiskey in a Jar.

I don't care for any death metal I've heard because of all the growling that I can't understand (Nile, for example.) Looking for more melodic/symphonic, maybe in black metal or other genre. THanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like you haven't listened to a great range of metal. I'd say go to www.last.fm and listen to the metal radio there. Just go to tags of METAL and SYMPHONIC and you'll get a good selection .

Or check out www.rothmetal.com for some metal.

For symphonic stuff, try Tvangeste. Here's a song:

Here you have some recomendations for symphonic Black Metal bands http://www.metalthrone.net/ftopict-1999.html

If you like the symphonic aspect or the clear vocals you can also try ARCTURUS, HOLLENTHON, PERSEFONE...

Anorexia Nervosa should be symphonic enough, at least the "Drudenhaus" album sounds like something you're looking for. It is fast and quite extreme, mostly with screeching vocals though there are also a few clean passages in the middle, it's very similar to modern Dimmu Borgir albums. Lyrics in English and in French. Their "gothic" image is quite misleading though, because not much of their music follows that genre. Should be worth a try anyways.

Ah actually listen to music! That was too obvious so it didn't occur to me :-) But seriously, if I had satellite radio by now I probably wouldn't have to ask. Thanks for the suggestion.

Since you like Dimmu's "PEM" album. Try some of these bands:
Arthemesia
Emperor (anything after In The Nightside Eclipse)
Limbonic Art
Tvangeste
Ram-Zet
Satyricon (Volcano or Now, Diabolical you may like)

If you like these bands then try checking out their older material.
